Do you experience burnout? Do you lack motivation to start working on your project, because it feels like starting a 3-hour marathon? Do you have trouble keeping focus?

Then the Pomodoro Technique is for you!

Honestly, I would have never finished this app if it wasn't for the app itself. I quickly built a working prototype and then used it to finish the rest of the project. In the past, I have burned out, lost motivation when staring down a 2-hour bug-fix or refactor, and scrapped projects entirely. Using this app helped me finally finish something by keeping me focused in 25-minute intervals and forcing me to take 5-minute breaks. Reaching that 15-minute long break feels like a real success and keeps the motivation flowing.

Pomodoro Lite v.1.4

The Lite version of this app is free (though donations are highly appreciated!). It features a fully functional, standard Pomodoro setup:

  • Standard Cycles: 25 minutes of focus, 5-minute short breaks.
  • Long Breaks: After 4 cycles, you are rewarded with a 15-minute break.
  • Audio Cues: Let you know when the timer is up.
  • Controls: Play/Pause, Skip, and Reset buttons, plus an audio toggle

Note: The Lite version lacks Pro features like custom timer lengths, custom cycles, and future planned updates.

Behind the Scenes

I spent many hours creating this program using Godot 4.6, C#, and VSCode, and equally many hours creating all the assets in Inkscape. I hope this program can help others be more productive and creative. Any form of donation, no matter how small, is highly appreciated and helps support my indie development!

Why the Pomodoro Technique?

Taking pre-determined, systematic breaks during a study session had mood benefits and appeared to have efficiency benefits (i.e., similar task completion in shorter time) over taking self-regulated breaks.

... the short breaks between study intervals allow the brain to process information more effectively, leading to better memory retention for what you’re learning.

The Pomodoro Technique is one of the most effective ways to maximize productivity and minimize overwhelm.

(Disclaimer: I didn't invent the Pomodoro Technique; I merely created a tool to make it easier to use. While you could use a phone or kitchen timer, phones are packed with distracting notifications. A dedicated desktop app like this keeps your phone out of sight so you can stay fully immersed in your work!)
